Chasing Lines and Shapes at 63 Yung Kuang Road

I love lines.

There’s something magnetic about linear design—it pulls you in, commands attention. I recently visited 63 Yung Kuang Road, intrigued by the building’s distinct diamond shape and clean lines. Originally built as public housing, this structure is a rare example of Singapore’s modernist architecture from the 1970s, though now largely out of bounds. Its future feels uncertain; I couldn’t tell if this architectural gem is on the path to demolition or awaiting a revival.

I brought along my Panasonic Lumix S5IIX for the shoot and was thrilled by how intuitive it felt, especially compared to my Leica M. Street photography with manual focus is a skill I’m still honing, but the Lumix made it easier to get into the flow of capturing this place’s unique character.
